Out of consideration for animals trying to eke out an existence in an area with a high number of hunters per capita, comments about wildlife at Birch Brook are intentionally vague. Suffice it to say that following extensive habitat loss from the 1985 fire, encounters with wildlife at Birch Brook are rare and privileged events. Hunting, of course, is not compatible with the intended uses of Birch Brook trails such as skiing, hiking, school field trips, and youth outings. As always, the integrity of the Birch Brook facility including surrounding ecosystems, depends on public courtesy and respect.
